I'm seriously considering a run for Albany City Council. Albany has been a welcoming home to me, and I believe I can help turn the values we share into real progress for our community. I want to hear from you. No issue is too big or too small.
me!
The moment my family and I landed in America, at New York's Kennedy Airport.
Jon Destin is Albany's 2026 Citizen of the Year. He immigrated to this country as a child, was educated here, became a teacher, and went on to build a successful business of his own.
For years he's given back to the city he loves, as President of the Albany Community Foundation, a member of the YMCA board, and a decade on the Albany Education Foundation's board. A gay dad raising his son in Albany, he believes every family deserves to feel seen and supported, putting that belief into action as the founder of Albany's Pride, AUSD's LGBTQ+ parent engagement group, and a founding member of JPEG, AUSD's Jewish parent engagement group. He believes Albany's best days are ahead, and that good local government starts with listening.
